The concept behind one of Norway’s most popular Christmas programs originated here

Did you know that the concept of the Norwegian christmas program ”Jul i Skomakergata” originates from the Old Town in Fredrikstad? The scenographer Jan Vatn, responsible for creating it, used the fortified town as the template for the popular christmas program. The program, directly translated to “Christmas in Shoemaker street”, was filmed on location in a building in the Old Town, between Voldport and Rådhus street. Despite it's name, the building used is in actual fact the premises of a bakery. However, if you would like to visit the real shoemaker in the Old Town, you may go to the one further down the street.
