Hvaler Gjestgiveri is a place to eat for people who want food with meaning and history. They compose carefully composed menus based on the availability of raw materials and the season.
The Hotel serves dinner all year round, but primarily for groups in the winter, the menus mostly consist of norwegian, locally sourced ingredients in season. Hvaler Gjestgiveri has a very rich wine cellar and offers "wine tours" with the Guest.
Hvaler Gjestgiveri also provides the perfect setting for parties, weddings and other events – large or small.
The guest house has 14 double rooms, meeting rooms for 8, 16 or 30 people and space for 80 in the restaurant.
Groups and conference guests are served good lunches, and the farm breakfast is simple and good with fresh eggs from our own hens and freshly baked bread. Hvaler Gjestgiveri is a great place for celebrations and weddings.
The dinner can be combined with one of the many events the guest house offers. In the summer, there are many concerts and for the rest of the year, courses on wine and food and various horse shows are offered.
Beautifully located cafe at Bastion5 – the southern tip of the old town. Café Magenta is the cultural café and meeting place for concerts, art, waffles, lunch, dinner, good conversations, parties and celebrations. In the old Slaveriet from 1731, you get personal service and a rustic menu.
Café Magenta also offers charming and pleasant premises for hire for small and medium-sized groups.

Open on weekends from Easter until September, and daily from the start of the school summer holiday until mid-August.
Kroloftet – a rustic pub with atmosphere
Located on the second floor, Kroloftet is a charming pub with exposed wooden beams and a warm atmosphere. Open every Friday in July from 22:00 – 02:00. Age limit: 18 years.
Private events & functions
Seilerkroa and/or Kroloftet are available for private events during the shoulder seasons. Food and drink options are provided to suit any occasion.
Litteraturhuset Fredrikstad (the House of Literature) is dedicated to literature and culture. Along with many exciting events, the house also includes the restaurant Fabel with a book cafe, food bar and restaurant.
Litteraturhuset Fredrikstad is run by an independent and non-commercial foundation aiming to generate interest for literature and reading.
The restaurant is located on the Hvaler golf course in beautiful hiking areas, a short bike ride away from Skjærhalden. Recently renovated, both inside and out – and a kitchen based on fresh local produce with organic vegetables and seafood. Catering is offered with a wide range of dishes for social gatherings.
The restaurant is open to everyone – even non-golfers.
