Berry Picking in the Forest – Discover Nature’s Pantry

Guided tour in The Fortified Town – Gamlebyen

TOUR DESCRIPTION:
Gamlebyen is one of Northern Europe’s best preserved fortified towns, and was founded in 1567 by King Fredrik II. Experience the particular atmosphere in our town, Gamlebyen in Fredrikstad. Every house has its own tale to tell, you can almost hear them relate what they have experienced down through the years. Just think what it would be like in those days: the pigs running free around the town, the forced labourers on all fours laying the cobblestones you are now walking on. Not to forget the social differences that were in force: the Commandant had the last word in the garrison town, the well-to-do ladies rode in their wagons to the sound of horses hoofs on the cobblestones; the tramp of marching garrison soldiers.

The old town is a vibrant city with approx. 400 inhabitants, exciting shops, museums, galleries, restaurants and cafes.

Put aside an hour to look back in time and let our guides tell you stories full of history and adventure that have happened here!

This is a definite "must see"!
